Reading Twyla Tharp is something that
really interests me. Being creative is something I’ve always been good at
naturally. After reading, she has inspired me to take my creativity to another
level. Who knew there were methods that can take you out of a creative rut?
Just like Twyla I also choreograph dances for people to perform and it is very
hard to create a new slate and think of something new all the time. Sometimes
it takes me days to make a new routine if it doesn’t come out a first thought.
In the
book the topic that really stood out to me the most is, she speaks about leaving
things off on a high note. By doing this you save yourself for the next time
when you return you are fresh and are not frustrated. Leaving things when you’re
still full of energy eliminates room for mistakes. Mistakes can happen when you
tired which causes you to become very sloppy with your work. Sloppy work never
gets anywhere and will result in failure.
I really like this method because I know when I really want something to
be right I will continuously work on it until I am burned out and frustrated.
When that happens I tend to just throw things together and it ends up not being
my best work. I find that my best work
is when I am fully rested and have energy to come up with something because my
mind is fresh and ready to go.
Something
that I have realized in Twyla’s readings is that a lot of her concepts are
thing that we already know due to common sense.
By her speaking on these concepts it helps us be more aware about what
we are doing to spark or hinder our creativity
